24-Hour Car Race in Daytona

The last two days we have been to the Rolex 24 Race at Daytona, Florida. It took us 1 hour and 15 minutes to get to Daytona from Orlando. We got there at 10:30am but the race didn’t start until 3:30pm. So meanwhile we set up the camp and afterwards we went to the fan zone.

First we went to get autographs for the drivers and after that we got to go in to the race track and we got to write on the start and finish line, Kelly wrote “gumptrip.com”. When they told us to go off we knew that the race was about to begin. We also went on the Ferris wheel.

There were 3 different cars in the race: GT (grand touring), DP (Daytona Prototypes) and GX. The cars go superfast and some even crash.

During the race we watched two movies: Home Alone and Kiki’s Delivery Service.  I also played my new favorite game called “Balloon Attack” and “ZanZan 4.” We ate hotdogs, burgers and chips.

We went to sleep at 10 o’clock and the cars where still racing so it was noisy and we had to wear special headsets to block the noise.

When we woke up the next morning I watched Scooby Doo – The Movie and after breakfast we went to sit on the Grand Stand to watch the race. At 3:30 the race ended and we finally found out who won! The Daytona Prototype #01 won the overall race. It was a Target sponsored BMW!
